The conference brings together academics and practitioners in areas including data science, analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and InsurTech, as applied in the insurance industry.

We look forward to this year’s conference, which will take place on 9 - 10 June 2026 in Hannover, Germany, organised by the House of Insurance at the Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Keynote Speakers

Hannover 2026

Frank

Frank Chang

Frank started his career as a traditional actuary, and transitioned to non-traditional actuarial work when he joined Google as their first actuary in 2012. He joined Uber in 2014 and currently is a Vice President of Applied Science in Core Services. His team consists of actuaries and data scientists responsible for providing insights and analytical solutions that serve all of Uber’s users. Frank holds a B.A. in Music and a Ph.D. in Mathematics both from UCSD. He has been involved with the Casualty Actuarial Society for decades, serving as President in 2024 and Chairperson in 2025. He now serves as the Chair of the International Actuarial Association’s AI Task Force.
Thomas

Thomas Kuhnt

Thomas Kuhnt is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at HDI Global SE, a leading global corporate and specialty insurer. He has held these roles since 2018, overseeing technology, digital transformation, and operations. He drives innovation by leveraging advanced analytics and AI to enable data-driven decision-making. His remit includes actuarial pricing, data analytics, and underwriting governance. Before joining HDI Global SE, Thomas was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the European Insurance Practice for P&C/Risk Management and Advanced Analytics. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Silvana

Silvana Pesenti

Silvana Pesenti is an Associate Professor in Insurance Risk Management at the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. She obtained her PhD in Actuarial Science and Insurance from Bayes Business School, London, UK, in December 2018. Silvana was named the 2022 Rising Star in Quant Finance by Risk.net for the paper Portfolio Optimisation within a Wasserstein Ball. She received the 2020 Peter Clark Best Paper Prize from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and in 2019 the Dorothy Shoichet Women Faculty Science Award of Excellence. She is on the editorial board of several leading journals including Annals of Actuarial Science, ASTIN bulletin, and SIAM Journal on Financial Mathematics.

The draft conference programme will be published in early May.

Registration

General registration runs from 1 February to 5 April, subject to subsequent acceptance and reconfirmation (due to capacity limits of the venue). Participation in the conference is free and open to all interested participants. To register, please visit the registration page.

Getting there

  • By Car:
    • From Berlin: Take the A2 motorway to exit Lahe – then follow Hannoversche Straße/Kirchhorster Straße towards Hannover-Lahe. Turn right onto Riethorst, then immediately right into HDI-Platz.
    • From Hamburg: Take the A7 motorway to Kreuz Hannover-Kirchhorst, then the A37/B3 towards pipeline|Hannover. Exit at Misburg – continue on Buchholzer Straße/Podbielskistraße towards Hannover-Bothfeld, then via Riethorst, turn left into HDI-Platz.
    • From Dortmund:‚ Take the A2 motorway to exit Lahe – Kirchhorster Straße towards Hannover-Lahe. Turn right onto Riethorst, then immediately right into HDI-Platz.
    • From Kassel: Take the A7 to Kreuz Hannover-Ost, then A2 towards Dortmund to exit Lahe – Hannoversche Straße/Kirchhorster Straße towards Hannover-Lahe. Turn right onto Riethorst, then immediately right into HDI-Platz.
    • From Celle: Take the A37/B3 to the Misburg exit, then continue on Buchholzer Straße/Podbielskistraße towards Hannover-Bothfeld. Turn right into Laher Kirchweg, then via Riethorst, turn left into HDI-Platz.
  • By Plane:
    • The closest airport is Hannover Airport (HAJ), Hannover-Langenhagen.
    • By Taxi: The conference venue is approximately 20 minutes by taxi from the airport.
    • By Public Transport (S-Bahn): Take S5 (urban rail) from the airport (station is located in Terminal C) to Hannover Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Trains run every 30 minutes; journey time is 15–18 minutes.
  • By Train:
    • Arrive at Hannover Central Station (Hauptbahnhof).
    • From there, you can take a taxi (approx. 20 minutes) or use public transportation to reach the venue.
  • By Public Transport (from Hannover Central Station):
    • Take the city tram Line 3 (direction Altwarmbüchen) or Line 7 (direction Misburg).
    • Get off at “Paracelsusweg” (approx. 15 minutes ride).
    • From “Paracelsusweg”, it’s a 2-minute walk along the parking lot to HDI-Platz.

Parking

A limited number of visitor parking spaces are available directly at HDI-Platz 1. Due to the limited capacity, parking must be reserved in advance. To request a parking space, please send an email to orga@hdi.de with the following information:

  • Your full name (as participant)
  • Your car license plate number
  • The date(s) and time(s) you wish to use the parking space

You will receive a confirmation by email letting you know whether a parking space has been reserved for you. Please understand that without a prior reservation, parking at the venue on the day of the conference can only be offered if there are any spaces still available.


Cloakroom and Lockers

A cloakroom is available at the conference venue. Please note that no liability can be accepted for items left in the cloakroom.

If you wish to store valuables, a limited number of lockers are available on site in various sizes (small and large). Lockers can be requested at check-in or later at the Info Point, subject to availability.


Smoking

Smoking is not permitted inside the building. For your convenience, designated outdoor smoking cabins are available near the conference area. We kindly ask you to use these areas for smoking.


Food and Beverages

Catering will be provided throughout the conference. Vegan and vegetarian options will be available. If you have specific dietary requirements due to health reasons or allergies, please let us know in advance by emailing orga@hdi.de. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.


Wi-Fi

Free guest Wi-Fi is available throughout the conference area.
